When things don’t go according to plan, having a few basic rescue skills can make all the difference. Intro to Self Rescue is a hands on clinic designed to give ice climbers the fundamental tools to solve common problems in the vertical environment.

$235

What do you do when your partner takes a fall and can’t continue climbing? How do you help give your partner a boost through a difficult section, deal with a stuck rope, or get yourself back up a rope when retreating isn’t as simple as rappelling?

This clinic will focus on practical, repeatable skills that can help climbers become more self-reliant when problems arise. Participants will learn how to assess a situation, secure themselves and their partner, use the equipment they already carry to improvise solutions, and understand when a situation can be managed by the climbing team versus when outside rescue is necessary.

The goal isn’t to turn you into a rescue professional in a day, it’s to give you a foundation of skills, systems, and problem-solving techniques that can make you a more capable and prepared climbing partner.

Recommended experience: Participants should be comfortable belaying, rappelling, tying common climbing knots, and using standard ice climbing equipment. No previous rescue experience is required.
